AboutKelly (Bako) Younkins is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Supervisor in the State of Ohio (E.1700316) who has spent the first part of her career specializing in Residential Treatment, Family Work, and Complex Trauma. She utilizes a variety of techniques and strategies, however has advanced training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, and is trained in EMDR.
Kelly has been in the mental health field for over a decade, working in a variety of settings with children, teenagers, and adults. Her primary focus has been working with children (and families) suffering from complex trauma and navigating multi-systemic involvement. With specific study and intervention with families whose child has been placed out of the home (voluntary or involuntarily), Kelly developed The Family Reunification Model to improve the clinical process, service delivery, and collaboration process. While Kelly continues to provide clinical consultation and learning modules for mental health service providers and programs who treat children & families, Kelly has begun to shift her clinical focus in providing support for families by identifying gaps in Perinatal Mental Health, and creating innovative & experiential learning events. This effort seeks to promote strong families and communities from its earliest foundation: pregnancy and the post-partum period. The "Perinatal Parenting Prep" modules have been a work in progress over the last two years, after experiencing significant gaps in care herself during her perinatal journeys. Dedicated to seeing and solving systemic breakdowns, she is excited to launch the first pilot session Spring of 2020! Kelly has a unique personal family background which, combined with her professional experiences and roles, provides a rich perspective from all sides of the table. Her experiences have served as inspiration in her work and a driving force in her commitment to the continued development and promotion of the FRM & Perinatal Learning Module, as well as the ongoing support of children/families across the nation. Kelly has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology & Sociology from Kent State University and a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health from Youngstown State University. She has provided numerous workshops at the local, regional, state, and national level regarding her work and research in the areas of Counselor Professional Development, Residential Treatment, Feedback Informed Treatment (Scott D. Miller), and Family Reunification. She lives in Ohio with her husband Joel, their children, and their dog, Lexus.
